Guitar firebrand Billy Strings and his eponymous band kicked off the last day of Suwannee Hulaween with a wild set full of musical pyrotechnics and soulful bluegrass at the Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park. We’ve already told you about his epic sit-in with the The String Cheese Incident on Sunday evening, but at that point, Strings was already on fire from his incredible set of originals, choice standards, and covers earlier that day.
Billy Strings has deservedly enjoyed a steady rise in the jamgrass scene due to his incredible chops and his stellar backing band. Banjo player Billy Failing cuts through the mix with intricate runs and rolls. Royal Masat uses his deep bottom-end bass to give each song a rock-solid heartbeat while mandolinist Jarrod Walker helps keep time while also blazing away on the fretboard.
Our own Rex-A-Vision was on hand to catch the fun as Strings woke up a bleary-eyed but ready-to-rock Sunday morning crowd. After you check out the fun from Billy Strings’ Sunday set, you can peruse some of the other highlights we have already shared from Suwannee Hulaween 2019 including String Cheese Incident’s ’90s-themed Saturday spectacle and opening night madness from Umphrey’s McGee and Greensky Bluegrass.
