Eclectic bluegrass sensation Billy Strings made his way to the famed Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, NY on Monday for a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Appearing in front of kaleidoscopic projections with his regular bandmates Royal Masat (bass), Billy Failing (banjo), and Jarrod Walker (mandolin) as well as familiar guest fiddler Alex Hargreaves, Billy (born William Apostol) gave the studio crowd—and the national TV audience tuning in—a taste of 2021’s Grammy-nominated Renewal. The introspective “Know It All”, the album’s opening track, provided Billy with a worthy showcase for both his thoughtful songwriting and the uncanny level of musical talent his band exhibits across the board.

Billy Strings is up for his second straight “Best Bluegrass Album” Grammy Award at the 2022 ceremony on April 3rd. The acclaimed flatpicker is also featured on Béla Fleck‘s My Bluegrass Heart, which will compete against Renewal in the category. In addition to the nod for the album, Strings, 29, is up for a Grammy in the “Best American Roots Performance” category for “Love and Regret”.
