Guitarist Billy Strings and his band are in Denver, CO all weekend, where the Americana outfit is celebrating a weekend’s worth of sold-out shows at the Ogden Theatre on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Friday night’s weekend run opener saw Strings and company treat attendees to 25 songs stretched out over two sets and an encore.

Strings opened the show with one of his originals in “Slowtrain”, followed by a wide mix of covers played throughout the set with the band’s takes on The Dillards‘ “Ernest T. Grass”, Johnny Horton‘s “Ole Slew-Foot”, New Gras Revival‘s “This Heart of Mine”, The Stanley Brothers‘ “White Dove”, and John Phillips‘ “Me and My Uncle”.

The covers-heavy show continued into the second set with Strings’ live renditions of Jeff Austin‘s “Run Down”, Jimmie Driftwood‘s “Tennessee Stud”, and J.J. Cale‘s “Ride Me High”, to name a few.

Only three songs from Strings’ latest album–2019’s Home–made their way into the setlist on Friday with “Watch it Fall” in the first set, “Must Be Seven” during the second, and “Freedom” to close the show in the encore.
