[UPDATE 11/29/24]: Bluegrass superstar Billy Strings appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thanksgiving night for a performance of “Seven Weeks In County” from his latest album, Highway Prayers.

The performance came during an episode featuring comedian Jerry Seinfeld and WWE wrestler Cody Rhodes. Strings’ Tonight Show performance of the gloomy Western tale was relatively subdued by his standards, focusing on the song’s eerie ambiance and “f— around and find out” themes rather than the highly technical musicianship and improvisation that often highlight his live shows. Still, the Tonight Show rendition of “Seven Weeks In County” managed to be notably compelling—an excellent entrée into Strings’ world for the uninitiated national audience tuning in.

[11/22/24]: Billy Strings will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, November 28th, the bluegrass superstar announced on Friday afternoon.

The Thanksgiving Day appearance on The Tonight Show comes as Strings continues to support his latest studio effort, Highway Prayers. The 20-track album has been both a critical and commercial success. Upon its release in late September, in addition to various other distinctions, the album unseated Chappell Roan‘s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess to top the October 12th-dated edition of Billboard‘s Top Album Sales Chart, making it the first bluegrass LP to accomplish that feat since 2002. Coincidentally, the last bluegrass album to achieve that feat was the soundtrack for O Brother, Where Art Thou?, the classic film Strings went on to recreate onstage as part of his Halloween celebration in Baltimore. His 2024 live album, Live Vol. 1, was also recently nominated for a Best Bluegrass Album Grammy Award.

While this will mark his first appearance on on Fallon, Billy Strings has plenty of experience performing on nationally televised late-night talk shows. He has previously performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Tune in to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, November 28th on NBC to catch a performance by Billy Strings.
