Billy Strings continued his String The Halls: Home For The Holidays Edition video series on Wednesday with a take on “Unwanted Love”. The tune, originally recorded by Reno & Smiley, serves as the third installment of the virtual edition of String The Halls.

In years past, Strings’ annual holiday celebration has seen the bluegrass phenom joined by familiar faces in a friendly environment. However so far this year Strings—born William Apostol—and his eponymous band have covered “Stone Walls And Steel Bars” and “Think Of What You’ve Done“, both by The Stanley Brothers, without any outside assistance.

With each passing edition of the String The Halls series, new details come to light about how the string of videos will progress. Wednesday’s video features a slightly-newer model TV serving as the video’s border, as this one has upgraded from a dial channel changer to a numbered keypad. Considering Monday’s black-and-white set, followed by color TV the next day, and now the channel-changing development, it’s fair to say that Strings is moving closer to modern technology with each installment of String The Halls.

As for the music, Strings and his ensemble take on the familiar tune that they have played live dozens of times over the past several years. The cover kicks off with banjo player Billy Failing coming right out in front. Strings, in turn, takes a backseat in terms of picking and allows Jarrod Walker to step to the plate with a mandolin solo as the tune evolves into a full team effort.
