Black Pumas made their return to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night, where they performed “Fire” from the group’s 2019 self-titled, debut album.

Since bursting onto the scene with their self-titled debut last year, the duo comprised of singer Eric Burton and guitarist/producer Adrian Quesada have won a Grammy for Best New Artist, released a four-song EP of reworked originals as well as a Jimmy Webb cover, and much more

The Tonight Show appears to be returning to relative normalcy as host Jimmy Fallon is seen in a studio setup resembling the at-home office that served as his de facto studio for months following the outbreak of coronavirus. After introducing the band, the video cuts to an in-person performance from Black Pumas, a rare sight these days. As the seven performing members of the band play “Fire” beside each other with only the bass player donning a mask, it’s hard to believe that this video was released only yesterday.

“Fire” features more of Black Pumas’ recognizable sound, with Dick Dale-inspired riffs from Quesada and a chorus of voices formed by Burton and a pair of backup singers. As pulsating keyboard phrasings punctuate the vintage-sounding song, “Fire” seems like its been in the rotation for decades despite having been released just last year.
