As pickin’ fans await the beginning of Season VIII of the 13-time Emmy-winning PBS live music series Bluegrass Underground, the program has announced its schedule of broadcast performances. This season marks the show’s first in its new “forever home,” Pelham, TN’s The Caverns, and ancient cave recently outfitted as a full-functioning underground performance venue. The concert tapings for the new season of Bluegrass Underground—the first filmed in the Caverns—took place earlier this year. Now, the show has announced the broadcast schedule for the new season, and we can’t contain our excitement.
As Bluegrass Underground creator and Caverns owner Todd Mayo noted in a statement earlier this year, “We’re really happy to announce the grand opening of The Caverns, the forever home of Bluegrass Underground and many other special musical moments that will bring folks together in a spectacular space like no other the world over. Or under.”
The new season will premiere on Wednesday, September 5th with young guitar wizard Billy Strings, with Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sam Bush Band, Sweet Lizzy Project, and Tim O’Brien Bluegrass Band following on the subsequent Wednesdays, respectively. On Wednesday, October 10th, Bluegrass Underground will expand its stylistic breadth with an episode featuring funk favorites, Lettuce. Rev Osagyefo Sekou, Turnpike Troubadours, Mary Gauthier, Flatt Lonesome, Brandi Carlile, and Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper.
