Today, the Marley family, Island Records, and UMe have released a brand new music video for the late Bob Marley & The Wailers‘ “Easy Skanking”. The new video aims to capture the aesthetics and vibe of Marley’s homeland of Jamaica, presenting viewers with snapshots of various walks of life “taking it easy” around the island.

Musically, the video mainly stays true to the original Wailers recording—aside from a sonically submerged break which excuses the video’s subjects while they light their respective spliffs (“Oh god, I gotta take a lift…”).

As the Marley camp notes in a statement announcing the new video, “With its breezy vibe, tropical rhythms and easy-going decree, ‘Easy Skanking’ is one of the most indelible songs from Bob Marley & The Wailers’ acclaimed March 1978 album Kaya, which was recorded in London concurrently with the material that ultimately comprised 1977’s Exodus. The classic song is also featured on Marley’s greatest hits compilation Legend, which holds the distinction of being the world’s best-selling reggae album of all time, with over 15 million copies sold in the United States and over 28 million worldwide.”

In today’s hectic times, the new “Easy Skanking” video serves as a carefree reminder to celebrate the ongoing global legacy Bob Marley and take a moment to slow down and appreciate the beauty and the joy that surrounds you.
