On Tuesday night, October 16th, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros, the Grateful Dead guitarist’s new trio featuring drummer Jay Lane (Furthur, RatDog) and legendary upright bassist, producer, and current Blue Note Records president Don Was, officially opened their inaugural tour at Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, NV. While the new trio made their first onstage appearance as part of a San Francisco benefit show on Saturday with help from Mickey Hart and John Mayer, the Reno performance marked their first official show under the Wolf Bros banner.
Meanwhile in rehearsals…🐺 Thank you for all of the kind birthday wishes!

As promised upon the trio’s announcement, the tour opener saw Bob Weir and Wolf “exploring songs of the Grateful Dead and more in a trio setting.” Over the course of the show’s two sets, Weir, Was, and Lane showed off their natural chemistry on a selection of Dead originals and staple live covers in addition to a number from Weir’s solo set of cowboy tunes and a set one-closing sandwich of RatDog’s “Ashes and Glass” and Jerry Garcia Band‘s “Don’t Let Go”.
Thankfully, fans in the front of the venue had streamed the majority of the show, so we can relive Weir, Was, and Lane’s official debut this morning. You can check out live streamed videos from set one (starting with “Cassidy”) and set two (minus the encore) below:
