On Thursday, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros kicked off their 2019 winter tour at The State Theatre in Ithaca, NY. The band, comprised of Weir, bassist Don Was, and drummer Jay Lane provided Deadheads in attendance with 18 songs over two sets and an encore to get the tour rolling in fine fashion.
The show started with the trio getting the audience up and dancing with a rendition of “The Music Never Stopped”, a fan favorite from the Bob Weir/John Perry Barlow songbook. Next up was a cover of Rob Wasserman‘s “Easy Answers” from the late bassist’s 1994 Trios album. The band then returned to “The Music Never Stopped” before continuing with “Peggy-O”, followed by another Weir & Wasserman tune, “The Winners”. The band then turned to Weir’s solo catalog beginning with “Bombs Away”, a deep cut from Weir’s 1978 Heaven Help the Fool solo album, followed by “Black-Throated Wind” from 1972’s Ace. The first set came to an end with a lush “Weather Report Suite” into “Let It Grow”.

The band returned to the stage for the second half of the show to start with “Scarlet Begonias”, which continued on into a pair of Grateful Dead classics in “Passenger” and “Jack Straw”. The night kept rolling with the band performing “Cassidy”, and continuing into “Wharf Rat” and “The Other One”. The set came to a close with a pair of covers beginning with Bob Dylan‘s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall”, followed by The Crickets‘ “Not Fade Away”. The show’s one-song encore heard the band performing another Dylan cover with “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”.
