On Tuesday, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros continued their early-2019 tour with a performance at St. Paul, MN’s Palace Theatre.
The first set kicked off with a classic cover of The Dixie Cups‘ “Iko Iko”, with Jay Lane and Don Was locking into a feel-good rhythmic groove. The trio continued with “Lay My Lily Down”, off of Weir’s 2016 Blue Mountain release, which made way for “Big River” and Bob Dylan‘s “When I Paint My Masterpiece”. Weir moved forward with two RatDog tunes, “Even So” and “October Queen”, which have gotten some special treatment so far this tour. The Wolf brethren brought the upbeat first set to a close with a classic pairing of the Grateful Dead‘s “Lost Sailor” into “Saint Of Circumstance”.

When the Wolf Bros returned to the stage for their second set, Weir, Lane, and Was dove into “Bombs Away”, a deep cut from Weir’s 1978 Heaven Help the Fool solo album. The trio continued with a massive “The Music Never Stopped” marathon, with Weir and company weaving in renditions of The Temptations‘ “Standing On Shakey Ground” and Rob Wasserman‘s “Easy Answers”. For the remainder of the second set, Wolf Bros delivered a seamless run of jams including “He’s Gone”, “All Along The Watchtower”, “Wharf Rat”, and a set-closing “Not Fade Away”. The band returned for a lone encore of “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”, marking the third Bob Dylan cover of the evening, in the home state of the iconic singer-songwriter.
