Bob Weir & Wolf Bros continued their fall tour with the Wolfpack on Wednesday at Humphreys in San Diego, CA. The band welcomed special guests Paul Hoffman, Anders Beck, and Michael Bont of Greensky Bluegrass as well as renowned bassist Tal Wilkenfeld and debuted two covers, “Stealin'” by Memphis Jug Band and “So What” by Miles Davis.

Weir and his bros kicked off the evening with “Not Fade Away”, a song often reserved for the end of the show. The band played just the first two verses before transitioning to Johnny Cash‘s “Big River”, ultimately returning to the third and final verse of NFA at the end of the second set. After “Big River” came “Little Red Rooster” and Jerry Garcia‘s “Mission in the Rain”, marking the song’s fifth outing since Wolf Bros debuted it at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in June 2021. The band then enveloped “Don’t Let Go” within Ratdog‘s “Ashes and Glass” before capping off the first set with the classic pairing of “Weather Report Suite” > “Let It Grow”.

The highlights of the night arrived in set two as Weir and company welcomed special guests Paul Hoffman, Anders Beck, and Michael Bont of Greensky Bluegrass to sit in on “Friend of the Devil”, Memphis Jug Band’s “Stealin'”—a Wolf Bros debut—and “Cassidy”. They were then joined by Tal Wilkenfeld on bass for the odd-timed “Estimated Prophet”.

Things seemed to return to normal as Weir led the band through “Going Down the Road Feelin’ Bad” and then “Dear Prudence”, but the surprises weren’t over yet. After playing the first song of Terrapin Station Suite, “Lady With a Fan”, they took an unexpected detour through “So What”, another Wolf Bros debut. Weir had not played the Miles David classic since a Grateful Dead show on March 27th, 1988. The band returned to the Suite for “Terrapin Station” before finishing the third verse of “Not Fade Away”. For the encore, Wolf Bros selected the slow and reflective “Black Muddy River”.
