Bob Weir and Wolf Bros were back in action on Monday as the trio was in Mill Valley, CA to open their five-night residency at Sweetwater Music Hall. For their first of five nights at the California Bay area music club, Weir along with Jay Lane and Don Was delivered a two-set performance filled with Bob Dylan covers and the occasional Grateful Dead tune sprinkled into the mix.

The trio opened the show with a pair of songs out of the Weir solo catalog, beginning with “Cassidy” from 1972’s Ace and the more recent “Gonesville” from 2016’s Blue Mountain. The set continued with the first two Dylan covers of the night in “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and “Maggie’s Farm” before the trio returned to the Dead for “Friend of the Devil” and “Ramble On Rose”. Another Dylan song, “All Along the Watchtower”, came next, followed by Jerry Garcia‘s “Deal” to close the set.

The trio returned to open the second half of the show with an original from Weir and Lane’s days in RatDog with “Ashes and Glass”, which moved right into a take on Roy Hamilton‘s “Don’t Let Go” before returning to “Ashes and Glass”. The music never stopped as the trio charged right into another one of Weir’s well-known solo tunes, “Playing in the Band”, followed by “I Need a Miracle” then back to “Playing in the Band” and into “Franklin’s Tower”. The second half of the show kept rocking into yet another Dylan tune with “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” before the set came to a thrilling close with “Sugar Magnolia” and its “Sunshine Daydream” ending.

The band returned to the stage for a one final Dylan cover to close the night with “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”. Watch the second set opener from Monday’s show below.
