Bob Weir on Thursday kicked off his winter 2023 Wolf Bros tour at North Charleston, SC’s North Charleston Performing Arts Center.

The monthlong tour is due to feature Weir alongside his full Wolf Bros complement including string bassist Don Was, drummer Jay Lane, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, and pedal steel guitarist Barry Sless alongside The Wolfpack, an auxiliary string/horn outfit comprised of Brian Switzer (trumpet), Adam Theis (trombone), Sheldon Brown (saxophone), Mads Tolling (violin), and Alex Kelly (cello). On Thursday, Weir made ample use of his well-stocked roster, expanding and contracting the lineup onstage as he worked through Grateful Dead classics and more.

While some sound issues hampered the show early on, Weir and company eventually got their footing and closed out the first frame strong with the Wolf Bros debut of The Beatles‘ “Come Together” and a slinky “New Speedway Boogie”. The full pack of Wolf Bros then joined back in as the set cruised to its conclusion with a well-segued “Greatest Story Ever Told” > “Playing In The Band” > “Truckin'” combo, a slow and steady “Estimated Prophet”, a powerful “The Wheel” > “Wharf Rat” pairing, and finally a complete rendering of the “Terrapin Station” suite. A “Liberty” encore sent South Carolina fans home singing.
