With Bonnaroo only a month away, we can’t help but feel the anticipation for one of the most exciting events of festival season. Aside from a stacked lineup that includes headlining sets from Dead & Company, Pearl Jam and LCD Soundsystem, Bonnaroo offers a number of various entertainment options. Among them: Bonnaroo Cinema.
The movies being screened at this year’s festival are truly special, as two of them are specifically tributes to their late leading actors. Purple Rain, Prince’s famed 1984 semi-biographical movie about The Kid, is featured among the movie listings, as is Labyrinth, starring the late great David Bowie. Both films feature plenty of musical numbers, providing an optimal environment to sing along with the classics.
Other films include the new David Byrne documentary, Contemporary Color, featuring ten incredible color guard teams at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, NY, synchronized to live performances from St. Vincent, Lucius, Nelly Furtado and more. There’s also a tribute to Les Paul, and a live Lord Huron documentary.
Of course, the selection that really caught our eye from this list is Let Us Play, the documentary that chronicles the funk titans, Lettuce. The film premiered with an incredible response earlier this year, and Lettuce will not only be at Bonnaroo to perform, but they’ll host a Q&A after the documentary screening as well.
