The Stage at Suffolk Downs, a new outdoor, 8,500-capacity venue located in the former East Boston thoroughbred race track, will begin hosting concerts next spring, The Bowery Presents announced.

The Stage at Suffolk Downs is the result of a partnership between The HYM Investment Group and The Bowery Presents’ Bowery Boston arm, which also operates Royale, The Sinclair, and Roadrunner. It will be the company’s first outdoor venue in the region and also its largest at more than double the capacity of Roadrunner, which opened in March. The venue will compete with Live Nation-owned Leader Bank Pavilion and Xfinity Center, which hold a capactiy of 5,000 and 19,900 respectively.

“The Bowery Presents has always focused on creating and operating venues where both fans and artists alike can have a great experience,” said Josh Bhatti, who runs The Bowery Presents’ Boston office. “We are confident Suffolk Downs will join Roadrunner, The Sinclair, and Royale as a beloved concert venue in Greater Boston, delivering on our commitment to keep the music first.”

Suffolk Downs has hosted large-scaled concerts in the past including The Beatles’ second and final Boston area performance on August 18th, 1966, as well as Jackson 5, Radiohead, and Blink-182.
