Brandi Carlile has been elected as the ambassador for Record Store Day 2020. The annual celebration of independent record stores around the country will take place on April 18th this year.

In a video posted by Carlile on Friday, the singer professed her excitement for the opportunity and responsibility, and proved herself worthy of the position. The video, taken in Carlile’s attic and studio where she’s been “been making the physical manifestation of independent-minded music for over two decades,” also featured her longtime collaborators “the twins” – Phil and Tim Hanseroth.

Past Record Store Day ambassadors have included Pearl Jam, Run The Jewels, Metallica, Dave Grohl, Chuck D, Jack White, and Ozzy Osbourne

Throughout the video, Carlile and the twins state their case for why vinyl records are not only important to them but important to the world around them and to future generations. Whether it’s her copy of The Carter Family‘s eponymous album signed by the band which survived Carlile’s old leaky roof, or her mother’s 1972 copy of Blue by Joni Mitchell that traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to make it to Seattle, Carlile expresses her deep and sincere appreciation for vinyl.

“What independent record stores do is that they mine, archive, love, meticulously care for, and make available to you other people’s dreams,” she said. Carlile also stated that she’s never made an album that she didn’t put out on vinyl, and that they didn’t intend to be in an independent record store.
