Brandi Carlile returned to 30 Rockefeller Plaza for the second time in 14 months to serve as musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Alongside dual hosts Steve Martin and Martin Short, Carlile revisited her earlier catalog and welcomed Lucius to help spotlight her more recent work.

On a stage lit up with Christmas lights and flanked by poinsettias, Carlile first performed “The Story”. The title track to the singer-songwriter’s 2007 album was actually written by Phil Hanseroth who, alongside his twin brother Tim Hanseroth, has served as Carlile’s performing and songwriting partner for nearly two decades. The song garnered early success for Carlile and The Twins when it was featured on Grey’s Anatomy in 2007 and was later covered by Dolly Parton.
