The fourth-annual Brooklyn Comes Alive will host a special performance featuring the Disco Biscuits bassist Marc Brownstein, Break Science/Pretty Lights keys player Borahm Lee, Pretty Lights drummer Alvin Ford Jr., and Rebelution saxophonist Khris Royal. The band will blend New Orleans funk, jazz, and electronic music for a truly unique collaboration that perfectly matches the ethos of the beloved all-day music marathon, which will return to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on September 29th at Brooklyn Bowl, Music Hall of Williamsburg and Rough Trade.

Marc Brownstein and Borahm Lee have been involved with some of Brooklyn Comes Alive’s most memorable moments. Borahm’s J Dilla Tribute was a true highlight back in 2016, and Brownstein‘s all-star collaboration with Magner, Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee), Mike Greenfield (Lotus), Ryan Jalbert (The Motet), and Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio Band) was one of the most thrilling sets in 2017. Of course, Brownie and Borahm’s iconic [Br]eaking [Bi]scuits project with bandmates Aron Magner and Adam Deitch—debuted at BCA in 2016 and now playing venues and festivals nationwide—has cemented their place as two of the BCA’s most reliable players and curators.

Dumpstaphunk drummer (and Borahm’s bandmate in Pretty Lights Live) Alvin Ford Jr. and Rebelution saxophonist Khris Royal, however, will be making their Brooklyn Comes Alive debut in 2018. The pair—both staples in the New Orleans music scene—recently performed with Brownie during a much-talked-about late night show at New Orleans Jazz Fest called “Pretty Knights”, and, shortly after, the trio decided to bring Borahm into the fold for Brooklyn Comes Alive.

With festival veterans like Borahm and Marc returning in 2018 alongside rising talent like Alvin and Khris, Brooklyn Comes Alive is a truly special musician- and fan-favorite event. Inspired by the vibrant musical communities of Brooklyn and New Orleans, Brooklyn Comes Alive brings together more than 50 artists, allowing them to carry out passion projects, play with their musical heroes, and collaborate in never-before-seen formations. Each attendee receives a wristband that grants them access to every venue, which makes getting from set to set a breeze, recreating and paying homage to the club-hopping atmosphere of Jazz Fest by night.

The new band with Borahm, Alvin Ford Jr., and Khris Royal is destined to be smoking hot, with some of the best new talents this scene has to offer, playing a unique style of jazz and funk-influenced electronic improvisation.”
