Brooklyn Comes Alive is proud to reveal details on its first branded event to take place on September 26, a Jazz Brunch presented by Blue Note Jazz Club. Beginning at noon, Verboten will be transformed into a jazz club, complete with a New Orleans inspired brunch menu, flowing drinks, and sit down tables. Tickets to BCA are now sold out, but you can purchase individual Jazz Brunch tickets for $15 here.
Call (347) 223-4732 to make a reservation for the Jazz Brunch at Verboten. You may request the main room for Maurice “Mobetta” Brown followed by Billy Martin, or the Cabaret Room if you’d prefer to check out Holly Bowling. Reservations are not required.
Previously announced headliner Billy Martin of Medeski, Martin, and Wood will be joined by guitarist Chris Cochrane, a veteran of the NYC music scene who has played with the likes of Thurston Moore, Zeena Parkins, John Zorn, and Marc Ribot, among others, as well as Kato Hideki on bass, who was a seminal member of the Tokyo noise scene before moving to New York City. The trio of Martin, Hideki, and Cochrane will perform a unique set of experimental and improvised music.
They’ll be joined by Grammy award winning Maurice ‘Mobetta’ Brown & SOUL’D U OUT, featuring Chelsea Baratz (sax/vocals), Solomon Dorsey (bass), Warren Fields (keys), Shelton Garnder (drums), Joe Blaxx (Drums), and Bendji Allonce (Percussion). Maurice Brown is known as a member of the Tedeschi Trucks Band, and he’s worked with such artists as The Roots, Wyclef Jean, Jean Grae, Ellis Marsalis Jr, Roy Hargrove, Johnny Griffin, and many more. His band mixes jazz, hip hop, and funk together for a high energy and unique set.
Last but not least, pianist Holly Bowling will be performing a special set in the Cabaret Bar. Holly combined her two passions of classical piano training (since age 5) and going to Phish shows (nearly 300 of them) in producing her debut album ‘Distillation of a Dream’, which features piano transcriptions of several Phish songs and notable jams including the famed Tahoe Tweezer. She even recently received a co-sign from Mike Gordon who attended one of her gigs in Philadelphia.
Our friends at Sixpoint Brewery will be hosting a special happy hour for the first two hours of the event with discounts on a variety of Sixpoint beers. Don’t forget to arrive early to take advantage of this awesome opportunity.
The Jazz Brunch will kick off the inaugural Brooklyn Comes Alive festival in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at Verboten on September 26 at noon. The event is included for all Brooklyn Comes Alive GA Badge wristband holders, and a limited amount of jazz brunch only tickets will be available in advance and at the door (if still available).
