Bruce Springsteen has officially released his new solo album, Western Stars, and a music video for the title track to go along with it.

In the video for “Western Stars”, a song about an aging actor who was once shot by John Wayne onscreen (“Once I was shot by John Wayne/Yeah, it was towards the end/That one scene brought me a thousand drinks/Set me up and I’ll tell it for you, friend”). It’s the perfect “on-the-road-out-west-in-an-El-Camino” visual to accompany the new solo LP, his first collection of new originals since 2012’s Wrecking Ball. As “The Boss” noted in a press release announcing the album’s release, “This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character-driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements. It’s a jewel box of a record.”

The announcement press release also notes that “the 13 tracks off ‘Western Stars’ encompass a sweeping range of American themes, of highways and desert spaces, of isolation and community and the permanence of home and hope.”
