Grammy-winning musicians Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have announced plans to release a collaborative album under a new band moniker, Silk Sonic. The news was announced by Mars via Twitter on Thursday. While the tweet was light on details, the artwork shared along with the brief message bills the project as “An Evening With Silk Sonic” and names Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak as well as “special guest host Bootsy Collins.”

The first single from Silk Sonic is due out on Friday, March 5th. The release date for the full album has yet to be announced.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have worked together on various occasions. .Paak and The Free Nationals served as the supporting act on the European leg of Mars’ 24k Magic Tour, and both artists appeared on Chic’s 2018 album, It’s About Time.

While we don’t know much about Silk Sonic yet, we do know that Mars and .Paak are both multi-talented musicians and entertainers capable of doing everything from playing drums to fronting the band and singing lead. Much like each artist’s solo shows and recorded projects, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of rotating in terms of who’s playing what.

Then, there’s the Bootsy factor; if the legendary funk bassist is involved, we can expect this all-star communion to be all kinds of funky. Fingers crossed for a future tour with this all-star outfit, too.
