Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, the core duo behind Grammy-winning retro-soul outfit Silk Sonic, performed a few unlikely covers including “Last Resort” by Papa Roach and “Basket Case” by Green Day at a surprise aftershow following the band’s performance at Dolby Live at the Park MGM in Las Vegas on Saturday. The show took place at The Barbershop in the Cosmopolitan, which has the same owners as the Park MGM, home of the band’s ongoing An Evening with Silk Sonic residency.

Known for channeling the classic R&B of the ’60s and ’70s, Mars and .Paak expressed nostalgia for a more recent era at the afterparty, playing along with a DJ and the house band, The 442s, for a brief set featuring songs by Clipse, Ja Rule, and more. The party also featured a cover of Outfield’s “Your Love” with Mars on vocals and “Roxanne” by the Police with .Paak on drums.

The highlight of the Silk Sonic afterparty, though, was an apparently impromptu rendition of “Last Resort” by Papa Roach led by .Paak, who wore a long blond wig, a red solo cup in hand. Though he seemed not to know some parts of the lyrics, he belted out the song’s iconic refrain along with the crowd. (“Cut my life into pieces / This is my last resort! / Suffocation, no breathing / Don’t give a fuck if I cut my arm, bleeding.”) .Paak followed the Papa Roach cover with Green Day’s “Basket Case”, which he seemed to know a little better.
