Butcher Brown has shared a new live video highlighting the jazz/funk band’s performance of “IDK” from The Broadberry in their native Richmond, VA. The original instrumental appeared on the band’s 2020 studio album, #KingButch, released this past September via Concord.

The group’s 10:37 minute performance of “IDK” takes viewers on a ride beginning with the dreamy intro notation from bassist Andrew Randazzo before the rest of the band joins in on the action. From there, the lush and thrilling combination of horns, drums, keys, and guitar parts carry the music on a journey with few sonic limitations. Practically every member gets the chance to showcase what they bring to the table throughout the performance, which also acts as an excellent entry point for fans who may be unfamiliar with the up-and-coming group.

The five-piece band from Richmond fit right into the space-jazz/funk genre, which has been led in recent years by contemporaries like Lettuce or Soulive. Soulful rhythms, shiny horn leads, smooth guitar lines, and even some hip-hop-inspired vocal performances all fuse together from start to finish on their 2020 album, which is why #KingButch was included on Live For Live Music‘s list of Best Psychedelia Albums Of 2020.
