Carlos Santana has postponed the start of his upcoming Las Vegas residency after breaking his finger in an accidental fall. The legendary guitarist’s An Intimate Evening with Santana: Greatest Hits Live residency at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino was due to begin later this month.
“I am sorry to say that Carlos was out taking a walk at his vacation home in Kauai,” Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management, said. “He took a hard fall, and he broke his little finger on his left hand. He had to have pins inserted in the finger. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to play guitar for approximately six weeks. Doctors do say that he will recuperate fully.”
Santana, 77, was set to kick off the 13th year of his Greatest Hits Live residency with shows from January 22nd through February 2nd. All eight of those concerts have been postponed to new dates yet to be announced. Tickets for the postponed concerts will be honored at the new dates once they are revealed. The residency has additional dates scheduled for May which are expected to go on as scheduled.
“Carlos is doing well and is anxious to be back on stage soon. He just needs to heal,” Vrionis continued. “Santana profoundly regrets these postponements of his upcoming performances, but accidents happen, and his health is our number one concern. He is looking forward to seeing all of his fans very soon.”
Following the initial leg of residency dates, Santana is scheduled to return to the road for a new batch of dates on the Oneness Tour. The newly added dates are set to take the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame guitarist across the U.S. and Europe from April through August—with a break to return to Vegas for shows on May 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 21st, 22nd, 24th, and 25th.
