When he’s not on tour with Turkuaz, drummer Michelangelo Carubba likes to keep busy by playing music that he loves with his friends. Within New York’s live music scene, he’s become known as someone who can cultivate special sets with precision and dedication, quickly establishing himself as a go-to bandleader and organizer. His annual all-star birthday show has become a summer staple each August, while his tribute to the iconic album Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette back in February packed American Beauty with a raucous and passionate audience.

On November 17th, Carubba will return to American Beauty with yet another tribute show that is sure to be incredible. Don’t Do Me Like That: An All-Star Tribute To Tom Petty will feature two of Carubba’s Turkuaz bandmates—guitarist Dave Brandwein and bassist Taylor Shell—in addition to Twiddle frontman and guitarist Mihali Savoulidis, and Kung Fu keyboardist Beau Sasser. If Carubba’s track record means anything, he’ll have a few tricks up his sleeve as well for the special performance.

For the November 17th show at American Beauty, Carubba will play double duty, as he’s slated to play drums for the opening act, Big Words. Big Words features Carubba, Josh Myers from Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Danny Mayer from Eric Krasno Band, and Geoff Countryman from the Saturday Night Live house band.
