Legendary NYC venue CBGB‘s which shut its doors in October of 2006, is set to be reopened. Exciting, right? The venue that brought us The Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, the B-52’s, Misfits, along with being the first US venue that The Police ever played in is actually reopening its doors.

However, in life, when something sounds too good to be true, it typically is. And such is the case here, in what has got to go down as one of the most sacrilegious moves known to the rock n’ roll world. According to The Gothamist, CBGB’s is coming back, but as a restaurant….in Newark Airport of all places! The venue will be serving hardcore items such as Crispy Chicken Paillard for $16.50, and some new wave French Onion Soup for $6.50. How about a punk rock Classic Cheeseburger priced at $12.50? OY!

It seems that a holding company has purchased the rights to the CBGB’s name, which would explain the vast departure from their original style.

Chef Harold Moore will be serving “American fare in a fun environment recalling the legendary music venue.” And we just threw up a little in our mouths. This is brand exploitation at its best. The club’s owner, Hilly Kristal, who died in 2007 from lung cancer, is currently rolling over in his grave. See you at the grand opening!

Let’s remember CBGB’s the way it was shall we?:
