After several successful competitions throughout Europe and Australia, the ‘She Can DJ’ competition is coming to America, in partnership with CBS Radio and influential record label Astralwerks. The competition aims to find the country’s best female DJ/producer through a nationwide talent search. There will be local competitions in major markets across the United States, including New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, from which 12 semi-finalists and one wild card entry will be chosen. These competitors will fight for a chance at the grand prize, which is a recording contract with Astralwerks and a headlining tour throughout the country. In a statement from CBS Radio’s Senior Vice President of Programming,
“As the competition plays out across our considerable platform of contemporary hit radio stations, participants will be front and center with millions of music fans, and the top decision makers in the business. The electronic dance music movement has been playing out to much success on radio stations all over the United States, and CBS RADIO looks forward to advancing the genre.”
Astralwerks, the label behind superstars like Fatboy Slim, David Guetta, and Swedish House Mafia, will have a hand in identifying talent, so you know there will be extremely high standards. Astralwerks has always been a forward thinking label, releasing music from artists as diverse as Kraftwerk, Hot Chip, and Yoko Ono.
‘She Can DJ’ will debut in the United States this July. More information can be found on their official website.
