Last month, Charley Crockett released 10 for Slim: Charley Crockett Sings James Hand, a tribute to the lesser-known singer-songwriter. On Wednesday, the rising country revivalist shared a music video accompanying his cover of the late honky-tonk hero’s “Midnight Run”.

Taken from 2009’s Shadow On The Ground, “Midnight Run” provides a snapshot of James “Slim” Hand’s signature songwriting. Hazy barrooms, the bright lights and filthy souls of the American outlaw, and more all make up the whiskey-tinted worldview of our sometimes unreliable narrator. Directed by Bobby Cochran, the video turns Hand’s words into a reality while Crockett delivers the timeless lyrics in his trademark baritone.

Willie Nelson called him ‘The Real Deal’ and I’m telling you right now it’s a fact that there wasn’t a more authentic character in country music during James’ lifetime,” Crockett said of Hand, who passed away on June 8th, 2020 at the age of 68.

Watch Charley Crockett cover James Hand’s “Midnight Run” in the song’s new music video. The full album, 10 for Slim, is available now on streaming platforms.
