A new music venue is coming to Chicago in the form of The Salt Shed. The former site of the Windy City’s Morton Salt complex will now serve as a sprawling indoor/outdoor concert space. The riverside outdoor concert area will open this summer with a slate of newly announced concerts from Lake Street DiveJason Isbell and the 400 UnitFleet Foxes, and more.

Orchestrated by 16″ on Center, the production company behind fellow Chicago venues including Thalia Hall, The Salt Shed will open at 1357 North Elston Street on Goose Island. The initial slate of outdoor shows for summer 2022 include Fleet Foxes (8/3); Sharon Van EttenAngel Olsen, and Julien Baker (8/10); Andrew Bird and Iron & Wine (8/12); Lake Street Dive (8/13); Lord Huron and First Aid Kit (8/15); Mt. Joy (8/20); and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit (9/23). More concerts are set to announce in the near future.

The former site of the Morton Salt complex stretches over 1.5 acres and will serve as a multi-purpose space. All concerts in 2022 will occur outside, with the indoor facility expected to open in 2023. In addition to concerts, The Salt Shed will host various arts and culture programming, as well as bars, retails spaces, pop-up food events, and open-air markets. Construction and renovation of the space will continue for the next year, however, developers are committed to keeping the iconic Morton Salt girl illustration on the roof.
