Chicano Batman have shared a new music video for “Blank Slate”. The track comes from the Latin-infused alternative group’s new album, Invisible People.

The visual accompaniment joins fellow videos for “Color My Life” and “Pink Elephant“. The album, which dropped on May 1st, marks the fourth studio output for the band in 10 years.

The video opens on a close up of singer Bardo Martinez, sporting a colorful Dennis Rodman-style haircut, superimposed with footage of a night drive through the city. The band’s in-studio performance, mixed with the nightlife footage and the catchy disco beat gives the song a chic layer of glam pop. Chicano Batman’s progression as artists has come with an evolution of an already complex sound. With a mix of Latin, psychedelic, funk, R&B, and everything in between, the band continues to defy broad classifications of its discography as a whole. On “Blank Slate”, however, the group is clearly going for a more traditional, mainstream sound with the refrain of “I just want to love you/I need you to love me/I just want to love you/We can fall in love now.” This is a song that could very well be playing on the radio of the car being driven around in the music video.

Chicano Batman were one of many artists set to perform at this year’s Coachella festival in Indio, CA. That event, set for the second and third weekends of April, was one of the first festivals to announce postponement due to COVID-19. The megafestival is now scheduled to take place during the first and second weekends of October 2020. Given the gradual progression of the virus and the way many Americans are dragging their feet in properly addressing it, the festival’s October dates could still be subject to change.
