Genre-blending producer/guitarist Cloudchord on Friday opened up the skies for the arrival of his Sundrop EP. The six-song collection from the producer of The Disco Biscuits‘ forthcoming studio album features collaborations with Adam Deitch (Lettuce), ProbCause (GRiZ), Balkan Bump (Gramatik), and more.

Sundrop is the latest roadmap of Cloudchord’s stylistic exploits, opening with “Cryin’ Heart” featuring ProbCause and Braxton Cook. The track serves as a microcosm of the producer’s artistic interests as he provides a chillhop beat for ProbCause to add his lyrics to. Meanwhile, jazz artist Braxton Cook, who has toured with Tom Misch, adds late-night horns and smooths out the sonic texture. On the other end of the musical spectrum, Cloudchord teams up with vocalist Janet Guenther for a blissed-out take on TLC‘s “Waterfalls” before bookending the album with a sublime instrumental reprise of the 1994 R&B hit.

Born Derek VanScoten and taking on the Cloudchord name in 2016 after releasing a pair of albums as D.V.S*, this latest monicker finds the producer melding together his seemingly disparate influences. As a child, he idolized guitar heroes like Jimi Hendrix before diving into jazz and later developing an interest in hip-hop. With Cloudchord, his chillhop and deep house leanings come to the forefront while also adding unique guitar compositions to his infectiously sunny grooves.
