The guitarist/touring Vulfpeck member and his funk ensemble got right down to business as they opened the show with a rendition of the NFL On Fox theme music which transitioned right into the fast-paced funkiness of “Lunchtime”. Wong kept thing rolling with “Gumshü” as the band settled in to the laid-back groove, before beginning some of his audio-visual antics on “Dial-Up”, where nostalgic images of AOL connection messages appeared on the screen behind him. This gave way to “Welcome To Minneapolis”, followed by one of the most realistic car anthems, “’91 Maxima”. Wong and company then invited up saxophonist Grace Kelly, who had recently been in the studio with Wong to record a new Fearless Flyers record, to join in on a rendition of “Friends At Sea”.

After Kelly departed from the stage, the band kicked into the punchy rhythm of “Team Sports” followed by “Companion Pass”. It was during “Companion Pass” that Wong took time out to address the audience, and share with them some of the findings he gathered about his audience through Facebook analytics, including the fact that 70 percent of the audience at Brooklyn Bowl that evening were in some sort of creative trade. After that the band brought up bassist Louis Cato to lend a hand on “St. Paul”. Once Cato had left the stage, the band ran through a smattering of songs including “Simon”, “Juke Joint Jelly”, where they were joined by singer Pheobe Katis, “Today I’m Gonna Get Myself A Real Job”, and “Starting Line”, where they were once again joined by Katis.

The show began to wind down with “Jax”, although Wong showed no signs of stopping. This was followed by “Meditation” and “Ketosis”, and finally “Cosmic Sans” to close out the evening on a raucous note.
