Cory Wong has shared another music video featuring a new single to appear on his forthcoming studio album, Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul. The funk-rock guitarist’s latest recording hears him team up with Jon Batiste, the bandleader of Stay Human and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Following the Monday release of “Cosmic Sans” featuring guitarist/producer Tom Misch earlier this week, Wong’s latest track and music video sees him return to the recording studio to lay down the music with Batiste and bassist Louis Cato, keyboardist Kevin Gastonguay, and drummer Nate Smith. The five-minute instrumental is soft and relaxing, but filled with enough musical movement to keep the listener engaged all the way through. The piece certainly contrasts Wong’s traditional style of high-energy showmanship and funk-rock, giving the Vulfpeck guitarist the chance to really let the melodies coming out of his amplifier to speak (or sing) for themselves.

Wong also shared a statement about his latest single via press release in saying,

“Even though a lot of my music is instrumental, I try to tell a story or cast an image with the music. This one is a story of a father-daughter relationship. I was thinking about my role as a dad in my kids’ lives and how our conversations and life lessons will adapt and change quite drastically as we move into different seasons and phases of life’s journey. The guitar is the role of the father, who has scripted melodies and messages that stay consistent to drive home a foundation of lessons and encouragement. The piano is the role of the daughter (or son) who starts the song off with its beauty and mystery of birth, receiving the messages of the father and weaving in and through that conversation.”

Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul is scheduled to arrive on August 2nd. To celebrate the arrival of his next album, Wong will join Batiste and Stay Human by sitting in with The Late Show Band during episodes airing July 29th- August 1st.
