Cory Wong brought his entertaining Cory And The Wongnotes variety show to a fitting close on Thursday with an eighth and final episode. As the talented guitarist has done with each of the previous episodes, the final installment of the webseries again featured a sit-down interview a special guest, with this week’s being saxophonist Kenni Holmen.

Following a well-produced video sketch, the episode which was themed around “Tritone Substitutions” (music theory terminology) continued with the interview between Wong and Holmen. The two discussed topics ranging from manipulations of audio waveforms to the relationship that musicians have with the sounds and rhythms of the natural world. Holmen even showcased how one can recreate the sound of a lion with the use of his saxophone.

Thursday’s episode also included a full-band performance of “Heist” (featuring a notably sublime flute solo courtesy of Holmen), one of the new originals heard on Wong’s latest studio album, Cory and the Wongnotes, released last month.
