Dave Matthews was the featured musical guest on Tuesday night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, where the DMB frontman performed “Mercy”. The solo performance also raised awareness for voting non-profit HeadCount.

Throughout the course of the 2020 election cycle, Matthews has remained a vocal champion of HeadCount—just as he has since the organization’s founding in 2004. This year, the Dave Matthews Band was one of many groups offering free concert tickets to fans who checked their voter registration status on dedicated links through HeadCount’s website.

Following an introduction from Seth, Matthews went into a relevant rendition of his song “Mercy”, prefacing it by saying “I hope this song is appropriate for the times.” The delicate performance of the Away from the World track found Matthews on acoustic guitar as he lightly conveyed the lyrics. With the opening lines “Don’t give up/I know you can see/All the world and the mess that were making/Can’t give up and hope God will intercede/Come on back/Imagine that we could get it together,” it appears that Matthews’ hope for the appropriateness of the song came true.
