On Thursday night, a number of high-profile acts came together at San Francisco’s AT&T Park for a special fire relief benefit dubbed Band Together Bay Area. On tap for the evening were Metallica, Dead & Company, Dave Matthews, Raphael Saadiq, Rancid, and G-Eazy, with all proceeds from the show going toward victims of the recent North Bay firestorm that let Northern California devastated via Tipping Point Emergency Relief Fund.
While the lineup alone was interesting in and of itself, Band Together also marked Dead & Company’s first show together since their successful summer tour. With Fall Tour starting on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York City, west coast fans were eager to see what the Grateful Dead torchbearers had in store. With less than an hour set in their hands, the band played through a selection of signature standards including “Playing in the Band”, “Deal”, “Scarlet Begonias”, “Fire on the Mountain”, “Not Fade Away”, and “Touch of Grey”. With Bob Weir, John Mayer, and Oteil Burbridge trading lead vocals and sharing harmonies throughout, it’s clear the band is ready to pick back up where they left off in July.

The funds raised by Band Together Bay Area will go into an emergency relief fund established by Tipping Point Community and will be directed to the North Bay community foundations, service providers and government partners supporting the low-income communities hit hardest by the fires. The fund aims to address urgent needs, such as temporary housing, food, education and healthcare services, as well as rebuilding efforts. Beneficiaries to date include: Community Foundation Sonoma County, Napa Valley Community Foundation, the Redwood Credit Union Community Fund, Inc. as part of the North Bay Fire Relief Fund established by the Press Democrat and Senator Mike McGuire, Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa, among others. Pending reports of how much the benefit raised.
