[UPDATE 4/14/21]: Dead & Company will officially mount a second weekend of Mexican destination event Playing In The Sand following the first weekend’s rapid sellout on Friday. The second weekend of Dead & Co’s Playing In The Sand 2022 will take place from January 7th–10th ahead of the sold-out initial weekend (January 13th–16th). The official announcement of a second Playing In The Sand event in January 2022 comes after the band started an official waitlist for a potential added event last weekend.

Regarding tickets, the official site notes, “In the coming weeks, there will be select private on sales for those who have signed up for the waitlist. Should packages remain available after those private on sales, we will publicize relevant details via our newsletter, website, and social channels.”

[4/9/21] Following the rapid sellout of Playing In The Sand 2022, Dead & Company and event organizers are now exploring the possibility of adding a second weekend to the Mexican destination event.

Dead & Company gave Deadheads something to look forward to earlier this month with the announcement of the 2022 edition of Playing In The Sand, set to take place from January 13th–16th at Moon Palace Cancún resort in Cancún, MX. The demand was so high for the 2022 event that tickets sold out during pre-sale before inventory made it to the general public.

In response to the sellout, Dead & Company has launched a waitlist to gauge interest in potentially adding a second weekend to the band’s 2022 trip to Mexico. For more information or to add yourself to the Playing In The Sand 2022 weekend two waitlist, head here.

Dead & Co’s wintertime retreat south of the border served as the band’s first and last shows of 2020. Following the January run of shows in Mexico, the band was forced to cancel its summer tour several months later when COVID-19 shut down the live music industry.

While large concerts—even outdoors–are still not a reality for music fans in the United States, Dead & Company—and much of the live music industry—appear unified in their beliefs that come January 2022, enough Americans will be vaccinated to the point that large events will be allowed and international travel will go on unrestricted. The band has no further confirmed tour dates on its schedule at this time.
