Del McCoury was all smiles as he welcomed fellow Bill Monroe Bluegrass Boy alumnus Peter Rowan to the stage last night at the Suwannee Roots Revival.

The two guitarists were clearly delighted to see each other and shared jokes and even made a game of switching back and forth lead duties during their two-song jam at the 4th annual Spirit Of The Suwannee Music Park event. Rowan’s smooth approach played off McCoury’s crisp picking to delightful effect and the lucky fans in the audience couldn’t stop smiling and dancing up a storm.

The inimitable Mr. Rowan wasn’t the only extra guitarist on the stage, however. Grandson Evan McCoury made the trip to the beloved Florida music venue as well and his guitar licks paired perfectly with the sound the family band was laying down. Del McCoury has been blessed with a very talented family, with sons Ronnie & Rob McCoury not only part of his band but multiple award-winning instrumentalists on the mandolin and banjo respectively. Ronnie was clearly proud of his son, beaming every time he stepped to the mic for a blistering lead.

All this isn’t to say that the two non-blood-related band members, Jason Carter and Alan Bartram, aren’t stellar as well. Bartram is the classic bluegrass bassist, in both vocals and his playing tone. Kentucky’s pride Jason Carter has been repeatedly recognized as one of the finest—if not the finest—fiddle player alive and was even recently made a Kentucky Colonel for his distinguished representation of his home state.

All this talent was clearly falling on jubilant ears and the feedback loop of love was a true wonder to behold. Check out the videos our own Rex-A-Vision captured and shared from last night’s performance and have your own dance party wherever you are! Enjoy!
