Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio returned on Friday with the band’s third full-length release, Cold As Weiss. Available across streaming platforms, the nine-track LP marks a new chapter for the instrumental ensemble and cements its latest lineup.
Helmed by self-taught, virtuosic organist Delvon Lamarr, DLO3 features guitarist Jimmy James and new drummer, Dan Weiss. The latest album title serves as a warm welcome—or lighthearted hazing—for Weiss, as this marks his first full-length release with the group. With the reinvigorated lineup solidified, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio looks ahead to its next chapter of “feel good music.”
Since its debut album Close But No Cigar in 2018, DLO3 has presented something new yet familiar. The stylistic blend of vintage acid-jazz with deeply embedded funk roots traces influences from the heart of New Orleans all the way up the East Coast to the crowded jazz clubs of New York. Each member brings a unique flavor to the musical pot, with James firing off searing, blues-soaked riffs as Lamarr steers the sonic direction of the vessel to uncharted territory. The final piece of the puzzle, Weiss’ pocket-groove drumming provides the foundation for his bandmates’ musical exploration.
