As the start of Denver Comes Alive (1/17, 1/18) draws near, there are so many unique collaborations to look forward to—from Skerik, Stanton Moore, Wil Blades, and Nels Cline to WRD featuring Robert Walter, Eddie Roberts, and Adam Deitch—but one of the most highly anticipated parts of the two-day music marathon is the return of eclectic organ trio Krasno/Moore Project [get tickets].
Soul-jazz guitar virtuoso Eric Krasno and luminary New Orleans funk drummer Stanton Moore (Galactic), both household names in their own right, cemented their collaboration in 2023 with their debut album as Krasno/Moore Project, Book of Queens, a collection of instrumental organ trio renditions of songs written, performed, and popularized by women through the years with contributions from notable instrumentalists like Cory Henry, Branford Marsalis, and Robert Randolph.
The album struck a perfect balance between master musicianship and mass appeal. As Moore said when Book of Queens was announced, “We wanted to create an album that we would be proud to play for our wives…something that we could listen to while making dinner or hanging on the beach. Our goal was to assemble a collection of songs that created an instant vibe from beginning to end, and could be enjoyed with family and friends time and time again.”

They hit the road from there, often with secret weapon Eric Finland manning the organ, on a run of tour dates that lasted throughout 2023. Due to the demanding schedules of both Moore and Krasno, the band has not played together live since the spring 2024 New Orleans Jazz Fest season, when they performed at Daze Between New Orleans and mounted a late-night show at The Blue Nile. The special performance at Denver Comes Alive marks the only Krasno/Moore Project date currently confirmed on the band’s schedule.
In addition to introducing listeners to the uniquely approachable sound of the new group, the 2023 tour gave fans a glimpse at the vast network of musical friends and colleagues that branches off from Moore and Krasno. The list of guests who sat in with Krasno/Moore Project throughout the tour included the likes of Scott Metzger (guitar), Christian McBride (bass), Skerik (saxophone), Danny Mayer (guitar), members of Jazz Mafia (brass), and more. Look for Eric Krasno and Stanton Moore to make use of some of the 30+ well-known musicians on the Denver Comes Alive 2025 bill when they hit the stage on the second and final night of the event, Saturday, January 18th.
