Marcus King Band are currently on the Wheels of Soul tour with Tedeschi Trucks Band and the Drive-By Truckers. The three bands have been collaborating almost every night since the beginning of the tour, with TTB bandleader and guitarist Derek Trucks even sitting in with the support acts on various occasions.

Last night, at Indianapolis’ Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park, Trucks went toe-to-toe with Marcus King on a ripping version of the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Hot Lanta” during Marcus King Bang’s opening set. Of course, playing Allman Brothers material with Derek Trucks is almost as good as playing with one of the original members, and for a musician who grew up on their every note, Marcus King looks to be living out his dream. The collaboration came on the tail end of a gorgeous version of MKB’s original, “Always”, which you can also watch below.

On Thursday night, while Marcus King Band played the Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA, the young guitarist joined Pigeons Playing Ping Pong for their take on “Lightning“. Predictably, the performance was exactly as you’d expect, with Pigeons guitarist Jeremy Schon and the young guitar prodigy going off and exchanging fiery solos during the song’s jam portion.
