Jacksonville, FL local and world-renowned guitarist Derek Trucks offered up a solo guitar rendition of the national anthem ahead of the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ Thursday Night Football matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night.

Trucks’ voice was, as usual, silent as he delivered the “virtual” anthem performance from what appears to be his home studio, which is visibly decked out with Jaguars gear. Trucks kept it simple on his instrumental guitar rendition of the National Anthem, adding texture with some well-placed distortion, added bass notes, and slide flourishes to give the rendition a distinctly southern feel. An active member of the Jacksonville community, Trucks and his wife/Tedeschi Trucks Band co-bandleader, Susan Tedeschi, have partnered with the Jaguars on various occasions in the past. Back in 2018, Tedeschi performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” before a home playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.

Later in 2018, Trucks and Tedeschi made local headlines for donating 38 musical instruments worth a total of $48,000 to Jacksonville’s Englewood High School for the purposes of music education. As Trucks explained to WJCT at the time, “Susan and I were both fortunate to have instruments available to us when we were young. Sadly, this is not the case for so many students these days, at a time when having the tools to express creativity is so vital to their education. We were happy and humbled to be able to help.”
