The jazz/hip-hop fusion supergroup comprised of Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder has released its debut, self-titled Dinner Party album.

Just weeks after the release of “Freeze Tag“, the album’s lead single, Dinner Party released the full, seven-song record. Though the album clocks in just over 23 minutes, Washington, Glasper, Martin, and 9th Wonder have plenty of time to show-off their musical chemistry. The group actually has a long history going back decades. Washington and Martin attended high school together, where they met Glasper at a jazz camp. Martin and Glasper have worked together extensively over the years in the jazz group R+R = Now, while all three worked together on Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp A Butterfly album. The addition of 9th Wonder to this group of friends fits perfectly, culminating in a smooth yet soulful album.

“Dinner Party is years of friendship, shows, dinners, conversations, laughs and life experience, all converging into one moment,” said a press release. “Dinner Party is a metaphor—a group, a project, a spirit, an imprint of time—and also the name of the album… Dinner Party is invite only, but it’s for everyone.”
