DOMi & JD Beck have revealed details for the group’s long-awaited debut album, NOT TiGHT, out on July 29th via Anderson .Paak‘s APESHIT label. Friday’s album announcement arrives alongside a new single, “WHATUP”, the duo’s third overall.
Among the special guests set to appear on NOT TiGHT are .Paak, Herbie Hancock, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Thundercat, Mac DeMarco, and Kurt Rosenwinkel, several of whom the duo has collaborated with onstage including Hancock, Thundercat, and DeMarco. DOMi & JD Beck previously worked with .Paak when they co-wrote “Skate” for Silk Sonic‘s lavish debut album.
The latest single, “WHATUP”, provides another sliver of studio content from the group that now has a total of 6:24 minutes of recorded music on streaming services. JD Beck shows off his versatility by utilizing a minimalistic kit of only a cymbal, hi-hat, snare, and kick drum while DOMi Louna—born Domitille Degalle—leads the pair through a stylistic range from contemporary jazz to keys ripe for a hip-hop sample.
The duo built its rabid fan base from the ground up with one viral clip after another on their Instagram accounts which have nearly one million followers between them. Featuring covers of everything from MF DOOM to the GameCube startup theme, the underground sensation amassed a wide array of followers who have come out to show their support on the duo’s inaugural outing.
“My philosophy of life is don’t take shit too seriously,” DOMi said.
