The Doobie Brothers will reunite with their former frontman, Michael McDonald, as the band celebrates its 50th anniversary with a celebratory tour set for summer and fall 2020.
Announced by the band on Monday, The Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour will begin on June 9th in West Palm Beach, FL and continue for 30 total dates throughout the summer months before wrapping on October 10th with a gig in Houston, TX. The run will see the band stop at arenas and amphitheaters in most major U.S. and Canadian markets including at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN (6/17); BB&T Pavilion in Camden, NJ (6/27); Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA (7/30); Budweiser Stage in Toronto, ON (7/19); Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY (7/26); Pepsi Center in Denver, CO (8/30); White River Amphitheatre in Seattle, WA (9/5); a hometown show at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA (9/12); The Forum in Los Angeles, CA (9/18); and the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, TX (10/9), to name a few.
The upcoming run of 50th-anniversary shows will mark the first time Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, and John McFee will tour together in nearly 25 years.
“We’re truly excited about our 50th Anniversary Tour, as it’s a celebration of the band’s entire history,” Johnston mentioned in a statement to go with the tour’s announcement. “We’ll be performing songs from our full catalog, as well as new music.”
McDonald also added in a recent interview with NPR, “With the Doobies, everybody in the band was proud to be a Doobie Brother. And to this day, I think of myself as a Doobie Brother — all these years later.
The band returned to news headlines earlier this year when the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced that the Doobie Brothers were on the list of nominees to be considered for the class of 2020 alongside names like Pat Benatar, Dave Matthews Band, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, and Judas Priest.
Tickets to The Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, December 6th, at 10 a.m. local here.
