Dopapod brought its 2022 winter tour to Cleveland, OH’s Beachland Ballroom on Friday night, delivering a performance that included two Ween covers and two encores amid a slew of career-spanning originals.

Following an opening set from Eggy that comprised of takes on “Evergreen”, “Last of Kin”, an unfinished “Today and Tomorrow”, and a cover of Big Thief‘s “Time Escaping“—which the band recently debuted at The Capitol Theatre—Dopapod took to the stage and launched into “Nerds”. Next came a rendition of “World is Waiting for the Sunrise”, a post-World War I song written by Eugene Lockhart and Ernest Seitz and popularized by Les Paul and Mary Ford, which led to a run through”Bubble Brain” that contained teases of Fleet Foxes‘ “Ragged Wood”. A Drawn Onward cut, “Roid Rage”, setup a synth-laden telling of the Dr. Mario “Chill Theme”, guided in earnest by keys player Eli Winderman. Following a return to “Roid Rage”, Winderman, guitarist Rob Compa, bassist Chuck Jones, and drummer Neal “Fro” Evans offered up a reimagination of Ween’s “Happy Colored Marbles”, which the quintet originally debuted on December 10th at Ardmore Music Hall.

After closing the first set with “Cloud World”, the four-piece opened the second set with a Megagem favorite, “Mucho”. A seamless segue to “Bluetooth” arrived before “Think”, setting the stage for an “Onion Head” > “Live in the Dream” > “Mucho” segment that made up the meat of the second frame. A little bit of “Trickery” then led to an Emit Time set-closer, “Landmines”. The palindrome band wasn’t done just yet, however. An encore break brought the group back out for a take on “The Fucked Jam”, from Ween’s 2003 album, Quebec. After what many thought was the end of the line for Dopapod, a second encore began and ended with “Badger”, and sent the Beachland Ballroom crowd off into the brisk Cleveland night.
