Dopapod gets eerily romantic in the band’s latest single, “Fannie”. The track is the fourth preview of the palindrome-loving quartet’s upcoming self-titled album, out on May 27th.
“Fannie” comes to life with a late-night Mark Knopfler-inspired guitar riff from Rob Compa. The track slowly thumps along courtesy of the rhythm section comprised of Neal “Fro” Evans (drums) and Chuck Jones (bass), while Eli Winderman (keys) sets the mood for a night out on the town with “Fannie”, including a diner out in Orange and an evening playing Clue.
Dopapod will mark the band’s seventh album total and first since its 2019 comeback, Emit Time, which arrived following a year-plus self-imposed hiatus. Beyond the 11 new tracks, Dopapod is a multi-media project that also includes the animated series Building A Time Machine, with episodes corresponding to each new single. Building A Time Machine also serves as the title for Dopapod’s new tabletop roll-and-move board game, designed by longtime team member and former lighting director Luke Stratton and playable on the vinyl dust jacket for the upcoming LP.
“We got to thinking, what if we’re building a time machine that allows us to go back through Dopapod’s history? In the game, each album is its own land, and every space on the board is a different song,” Stratton said of the design. “We came up with the infinity loop concept and portal as a way to travel through the band’s history.”
