In celebration of the 25th anniversary of their debut album, 3 Feet High And Rising, hip hop trio De La Soul are offering their entire catalog for free. What’s the catch? Well, you only have 25 hours to download it.
Starting today at 11 AM, until 2/15 at noon, you can find all of the group’s material through their official website.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, member Posdnuos explained that the promotion was a way for the aband to give back to their fans. “It’s about allowing our fans who have been looking and trying to get a hold of our music to have access to it. It’s been too long where our fans haven’t had access to everything. This is our way of showing them how much we love them.”
The trio samples other artist’s music in their own work, which has led to various legal complications. As a result, De La Soul’s music has been prevented from appearing on various digital interfaces.
Fortunately, the trio has been hard at work on their new album, You’re Welcome. They promise that tracks will be released in the near future, with an album release date before this summer.
“We’re just getting in the mode of constantly giving people new music,” says Posdnuos. “I’ll be the first to say that not everyone can do it. You can put out a new mixtape every week, but it can dilute what you’re putting out because you haven’t had enough time to see what’s going on with your life to write something from a different angle. With us, we’ve sat a long time without releasing an album. It’s high time we start releasing a bunch of stuff because it’s there.”
Enjoy the free music, folks!
