On Tuesday, Drive-By Truckers released their latest single “Thoughts and Prayers” from their forthcoming 12th studio album, The Unraveling. The album arrives on January 31st via ATO Records.

“Thoughts and Prayers” is the second single from the album and joins “Armageddon’s Back in Town”, which they released last November. Members Patterson HoodMike CooleyBrad Morgan, Jay Gonzalez, and Matt Patton recorded the album at Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis, TN. Matt Ross-Spang and David Barbe aided with engineering and production. The second single highlights a different sound from the band when compared with the first.

Acoustic guitars replaced the distorted electrics from “Armageddon’s Back in Town” and showcased the emotion behind the lyrics. They weave political themes throughout the song with lines like “When my children’s eyes look at me and they ask me to explain/It hurts me that I have to look away/The powers that be are in for shame and comeuppance/When generation lockdown has their day”, as images of protesters in Washington D.C. flash across the screen.
